- Colorado Chapter of Trout Unlimited: State Council Chairman (approximately 1976 to 1978); and received the highest service award for the State of Colorado, "The Silver Trout Award" in 1978.
- In-line Muzzleloading Education Association of Colorado, Mr. Steenrod, created this organization in 1998 and led a successful effort to reverse an ill-advised decision by the Colorado Wildlife Commission banning In-line muzzleloading rifles for hunting in the muzzleloading hunting season in Colorado.
Military:
Military Service: United States Army 1965-1968, Captain, Infantry, Airborne, Ranger, and Aviator (reconnaissance pilot). Flew in support of Special Forces in the Vietnam Conflict 1967-1968. Decorations include: Vietnam Service Medal, Air Medal with 26 Clusters, Bronze Star, and the Vietnamese Silver Star.
